I always try. No one in my life can ever blame me for not having made the effort. I always try. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes people don’t even give you credit for trying. But it doesn’t matter if they think you’re a bastard. If you’ve tried, then you know you did what you could.
Sometimes it actually works out. One thing that has worked out may be Ph.D. study. It looks as though there’s a 99% chance I’ll be heading east next year. Other things in my life are having mixed results. For a while, it looked like more grad school would be a part of this “mixed results club,” but it looks that’s not the case any longer — it looks like an academic future is indeed still on the cards.
In the meantime, I wish myself the best in all of the other areas, but as always, the fates will decide. I wish all of the people I love all the best in whatever they’re trying for, too.
