My 17″ Advueu LCD monitor arrived yesterday. I’ve been trying to get it here for like two weeks, so it’s a relief to finally have it in hand, and it’s fscking amazing. The contrast ratio puts both my ThinkPad and my desktop CRT monitor at work to shame. It’s fast as a drunken Courtney Love and sharp as a gay stockbroker. Wow, wow, wow. Perfect working tool.
So now I’m ready to begin working again, in earnest, like I haven’t since before Chicago. I’m lining up writing and editing projects that I’ll do nights and on the side. Yes, I could just take on overtime at work (and they want me to), but there my name doesn’t go on anything that I do in any substantive way, so I don’t feel so much like I’m building something for myself as that I’m just drawing a paycheck.
Anyway, I very much want to branch out from tech nonfiction and into the social sciences, including in the freelance realm.
